The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC, ex-Zaire) is all you can want from an exploration in Africa. Infinite trekking in the rainforest, irrigated by gushing rivers and dominated by smoking volcanoes will make you experience what you’ve always seen in documentaries. The DRC is unfortunately known for its colonial exploitation, authoritarian madness, and for what has been called Africa’s first “world war”, which ended in 2003. Not yet fully catalogued as a “Safe Destination”, it certainly remains a destination for Travellers with a good wealth of experience.
